Sun Burn is an Animatic short in which Midge, a vampire who misses the sun, embarks on a beach day retreat with the protection of her umbrella, only for it to go horribly wrong. I developed it initially for a Storyboarding and Character Design class, based on the simple concept of a vampire stuck in the sun. It took me a few passes to find the right look, and the right setting. 
I decided to lean into a 50s aesthetic to invoke old b-movie horror themes, and set it at the beach, because what could be a worse place for a vampire? I grew up going to Wildwood Boardwalk in the summers, and based my boardwalk setting on the one I grew up with, mixed with images from what it looked like in the 50s.  I have no current plans to develop the short into a fully animated piece, but I did adore the character I built and the journey to finding her.
